Ryelands estate, located in a rural part of Canterbury, contains special qualities. The area of housing is divided by stormwater swales along which are pathways and indigenous planting, thereby creating cells of housing. The swales terminate at a stream where the pathways continue for some distance. Within the roading network is an entrance pergola and sign, liquidamber trees and a recreation area with playground, tennis courts, shade and seating.
